March is Whio Awareness Month, a time to promote awareness for this unique and iconic duck. Despite the Whio being on our $10 note, very few people know about it, or how important they are to our high country river systems.
New Zealand's iconic blue ducks are some of the only ducks in the world to live in fast flowing streams. Their presence is a great indicator of healthy river eco-systems. But, with less than 3000 left in New Zealand, we've got to do our best to keep them around!
Genesis Energy and the Department of Conservation have partnered together to secure the future of one our most endangered native birds, the Whio. This month, a lot of competitions with fantastic prizes to win and fun activities are being organised across the whole country!
